AMETI(Auckland Manukau Eastern Transport Initiative) is a group of transport projects for the eastern suburbs. AMETI aims to give residents greater transport choices by improving public transport, walking and cycling facilities and reducing traffic congestion. Another major aim is to unlock the economic potential of the area by improving strategic transport links.
As part of assessing accessibility to the town centres along the route and connectivity to transport interchanges, Flow investigated cycle and pedestrian connections to, from and around the retail, commercial and transport town centres of Glen Innes, Panmure, Pakuranga and Botany in conjunction with the proposed AMETI works.
We undertook this work using a proven methodology including undertaking a number of site observations, analysis of crash data, targeted public consultation, pedestrian and cycle accessibility analysis and a review of previous relevant studies. This resulted in a series of recommendations to improve the cycling and walking environment in and around all of the four town centres. Concept plans for many of the recommendations were developed and together with preparation of concept cost estimates, each recommendation was prioritised into short, medium and long term implementation.
