Flow was commissioned by Auckland Transport to carry out the Takapuna Centre Based Transport Study – the first of AT’s “Centre Based Transport Studies”.
The Study looked to limit the volumes of private motor vehicles entering/exiting Takapuna during peak times, by having a limited amount of parking restraint for commuters and focussing on the projects that were considered necessary to encourage a modal shift towards public transport, walking and cycling in the Centre. Particular emphasis was put on the place value of the streets within Takapuna as areas for leisure and economic activity and therefore focus was placed on diverting through traffic around the Takapuna Centre. This was to ensure that greater space could be provided for footpaths, cycling facilities, street tree planting and general streetscape works that would support greater residential, commercial and leisure activity, in line with the aspirations of the Auckland Plan.
