The Northern Corridor Improvements Project

This project has provided significant additional transport capacity on Auckland’s North Shore.  It included:

  • New free flow connections between the Northern Motorway (State Highway 1) and the Upper Harbour Motorway (State Highway 18), including additional traffic lanes on the two routes
  • The extension of the Northern Busway from the Constellation station to the Albany station (see photo below)
  • The provision of various walking and cycling links.

Flow was responsible for the transport planning and transport modelling of the project from the assessment of a range of options in 2013, through to the provision of expert evidence to the public hearings in 2017, and we provided ongoing advice to Waka Kotahi during the construction stage.

The Board of Inquiry approved the project in November 2017 and the project was completed in 2023. More details of the project can be found here:

The project required the relocation of the North Harbour Hockey stadium from its previous site off Paul Matthews Road to a new site off Bush Road, still within the North Harbour Industrial Area.  Flow had significant involvement in the planning of the relocation and we were proud to attend the opening of the new facility in 2019.
